Sustainable Hybrid Foam Fire Extinguishers Systems

Proven firefighting solution for lithium-ion batteries fires and propagation

About FIFI4Marine

The team at FIFI4MARINE is happy to help think about the safe deployment of Lithium Ion batteries.

Sustainability is already, or increasingly, playing an important role at many companies.

Replacing fossil fuel propulsion when entering and leaving a port is increasingly a key requirement of port authorities. In addition, more and more different types of waterborne transport are equipped with electricity-powered engines such as boats, ships, ferries and cargo transport.

More inland vessels are also expected to charge using shore power facilities. In ports, you see more and more initiatives where batteries are included for the purpose of power supply. Lithium Ion batteries, large and small, have a chance of igniting. The disadvantage of such fires, also known as Thermal Runaway, is that it is difficult to control. Let alone extinguishing them.

FIFI4MARINE consists of a team of specialists. We started in 2017. Knowledge and experience has been gained from our past as a battery manufacturer and battery supplier. Because we understand better than anyone else how a potential fire in a Lithium Ion battery arises, we have developed an effective Lithium Ion fire extinguishing solution.

Every employee understands that in case of a battery fire, quick and effective extinguishing ensures a safe Lithium Ion battery solution. From in-depth knowledge of battery technology, detection technology and electrical control of microprocessors from the battery extinguishing system, to optimising foam viscosity which can extinguish and post-extinguish a Thermal Runaway of Lithium Ion batteries with as little resources as possible.

In doing so, it contributes to a safe environment for crew, passengers and cargo. Continuity or a quick return to normal is our objective.

FIFIMARINE can help you with standard solutions but also with customised solutions.

Maritime Technology / service offered

Our system specialises in putting out fires of lithium-ion batteries
Due to the growing demand for fire protection solutions on board ships, FIFI4MARINE an innovative automatic extinguishing system designed specifically for individual berths and storage areas where electric vessels or at battery charging sites and as power supply is deployed.

Traditional Sailing Ships

In the event of an incipient fire, the system immediately activates and envelops the affected battery pack with targeted foam extinguishing from both above and below. As a result, the fire direct nipped in the bud even before it can spread.

Our foam is biodegradable and completely safe for the marine environment. This prevents damage to the rest of the operational batteries, the ship, the crew and passengers, surrounding ships, infrastructure in the port. Our solution minimises the risk of large-scale fire spread.

With FIFI4MARINE’s advanced extinguishing solution, you are assured of optimum fire protection on the water and on the quay.

Three examples of projects delivered

Feadship Project 824

Project 824 of the renowned Dutch shipyard Feadship will soon be delivered to its client.

The second longest yacht built at this yard in Kaag Netherlands, is a technical masterpiece. Almost no vibrations can be felt on board thanks to several modern systems.

A diesel-electric drive with ABB pods ensures low vibration and efficient performance.

For the fire safety of the batteries installed on board for the ship’s power supply and partly for propulsion, a fire extinguishing system by FIFI4MARINE was installed.

The captain and crew of this sensational ship thus increase the safety and comfort of using the ship.

Naviexpress Thonon les Bains

It provides transport and services with the aim of contributing to the sustainable development of tourism in Lake Geneva by ensuring attractive services along its shores. This includes operating a modern and historic fleet of boats on the lake.

This vessel is propelled by a hybrid engine which reduces the burden on the environment. It consumes 35 to 40% less energy than current boats. It involves 2 x 920 kW main engines with highly efficient parallel hybrid/diesel electric propulsion system (2 x 300kW). Navigation up to 25 km/h is done in all-electric mode, generating no pollutants, CO2 or noise around jetties. The Thonon Les Bains has a capacity of 700 passengers. To ensure safety, CGN asked for a fire extinguishing system from FIFI4MARINE to be implemented.

Because in case of a battery fire, Thermal Runaway, to start extinguishing with foam immediately after detection, the fire is extinguished immediately.

Yara Birkeland

The vessel Yara Birkeland is the first all-electric powered autonomous vessel transporting fertiliser in containers. All operations at the loading port, during the voyage and at the discharge port are automatic.

FIFI4MARINE has fitted a 900L extinguishing system that protects 6.8MWh of batteries. In case of a thermal runaway of the Lithium Ion batteries, the battery fire is quickly extinguished. This is a safe thought on a ship which is fully loaded with containers of fertiliser. Quickly extinguishing only those batteries subject to the fire not only ensures that the other batteries do not also go into thermal runaway. It also ensures that the ship can proceed autonomously. to its destination.
