SUMMARY:Moderation by Madadh MacLaine at Electric and Hybrid Marine Expo Europe
DESCRIPTION:Moderation by Madadh MacLaine at Electric and Hybrid Marine Expo Europe\nWe are excited to announce that our founder and secretary general\, Madadh MacLaine\, will be moderating a panel at the upcoming Electric and Hybrid Marine Expo Europe on the 18th of June. As a leading advocate for zero-emission technologies in the maritime industry\, Madadh will bring her extensive knowledge and experience to facilitate discussions on cutting-edge topics in marine decarbonization. \nEvent Details\nModerator: Madadh MacLaine\nFounder and Secretary General\nZero Emissions Ship Technology Association\nUnited Kingdom \nPanel Schedule: \n08:45 – Case Studies for Battery-Powered Mid-Size Vessels\nSpeaker: Peter Lystrup Christensen\nPosition: Head of Technology Systems\, MMKM Center for Zero Carbon Shipping\nCountry: Denmark \nBattery-powered vessels have recently entered the shipping business in applications with short ferry crossings or hybrid installations. Continuous rapid development of battery performance and cost\, along with its inherently superior well-to-wake efficiency\, begs the question as to what needs to happen with battery cost and performance to make them viable for deep sea shipping. This presentation will offer a study that tries to address these questions by identifying barriers\, gaps\, and required development; operational issues and relevant vessels; charging infrastructure; and the potential WTW impact of battery-powered vessels. \n09:10 – The Challenges to Shipowners in the Decarbonization Process\, and the Responsibilities of Equipment Manufacturers\nSpeaker: Elias Boletis\nPosition: Chair\, CIMAC Working Group 10\nCountry: Netherlands \nThis presentation will unpick the questions which arise about the drivers of technological progress toward decarbonization in the marine sector. Are they pulled along by demand from shipowners or pushed forward by equipment manufacturers? What are the implications of either approach? Which would be best and should either do more of the same\, less or something entirely different? Elias Boletis\, who is responsible for the CIMAC Working Group 10 ‘End Users’\, provides a link between shipowners and the equipment manufacturers for the marine sector and will offer his unique insights into these critical questions. \nJoin us for these insightful sessions to explore the future of marine decarbonization and the pivotal role of zero-emission technologies.

DESCRIPTION:We’re pleased to announce that Madadh MacLaine\, Secretary General of ZESTAs\, and Jogchum Bruinsma\, Chair of ZESTAs\, will be speaking at the Fourth North Sea Ports and Maritime Conference on 27 February 2025 in Brussels. \nThis One Day Conference is to be held in Brussels in February. It will examine the development of the North Sea’s role as a Hydrogen Corridor and the key role that the North Sea ports and maritime sector will play in its development.  The Conference will hear from senior European Commission officials\, ports\, the hydrogen supply chain and the maritime sector. \n🔹 Madadh MacLaine will speak on “Deploying a Green Hydrogen-Based Absolute Zero Emissions Ecosystem in the North Sea and Baltic Regions”\, outlining how zero-emission shipping solutions can be implemented at scale.\n🔹 Jogchum Bruinsma will present on the role of fuel cells in short sea shipping\, exploring how hydrogen fuel cells can support clean maritime transport. \nThe North Sea Region is already a major producer of hydrogen and there are ambitious plans to increase green hydrogen production\, develop import and export routes in the North Sea and receive hydrogen imports from across the World.  The European Commission envisages the North Sea as a major import corridor and the International Energy Agency has said the Region “leads the development of low-emission hydrogen as a new energy carrier. This region accounts for around half of Europe’s total hydrogen demand and has a vast and untapped renewable energy potential in the North Sea. \n

SUMMARY:ShipZERO30 LISW – HyWindships
DESCRIPTION:How to Achieve Absolute Zero Emissions in Trans-Oceanic Shipping\n\n\n\n\n\nZESTAs ShipZERO30 workshop\, “HyWindships” brings together shipowners\, hydrogen producers\, wind propulsion experts\, cargo owners\, investors\, technology developers\, and policymakers committed to achieving Absolute Zero Emissions to discover how collectively we can achieve absolute zero emissions by working together across the full supply chain. “Wind and Wave to Wake”. \n\n\n\n\n\nCollaboratively\, we will explore how together\, we can make this work energetically\, and therefore economically. The key being efficiencies: efficiency in vessel design\, efficiency in onboard energy system designs\, but also efficiencies in the global energy system\, from the capture of renewable energy all the way through the supply chain to its use on the vessel. “Wind and Wave to Wake”! \nA “HyWindship” is an electric vessel that uses wind\, combined with energy stored in batteries and hydrogen\, for propulsion. It relies solely on electric propulsion to reach favourable winds when there is too little wind or none in the right direction\, and also in port\, for both manoeuvring and alongside. These vessels are also capable of topping up their energy storage systems when wind is abundant\, further reducing onboard energy storage needs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe seminar will feature:\n\nCase studies from shipowners operating absolute zeroe vessels\nInsights from hydrogen producers scaling supply chains\nTechnology demonstrations in wind propulsion and hydrogen systems\nAnalysis of energy system efficiency and electrification\nAn international helicopter view of RE and green hydrogen supply chains\nCollaborative sessions with ecosystem stakeholders\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy this matters\nThe solutions are real. The systems are proven. Absolute Zero is not a future goal—it’s happening now. Join us at the heart of maritime policymaking to explore what’s possible and what’s already underway. \nNetworking\nRefuel and connect during breakfast\, lunch\, and snack breaks. \nReception\nCelebrate our progress with drinks and nibbles on the IMO Terrace overlooking Westminster and the London Skyline! \n\n\n\n\n\nZESTAs members receive 20% off \nBeyond compliance! Do you have what it takes? Are you ready to be part of creating a healthy planet? Join the innovators who are making this happen now! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy at the IMO?\nThe IMO is where international maritime policy is forged.\nDuring LISW\, it becomes the focal point of global attention. \nBy bringing absolute zero solutions directly to this forum\, we make the case for immediate action—with evidence. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n🔒 Invitation-only event\n\n📩 Register your interest now\n–– View agenda ––
