Madadh MacLaine, Secretary General: The necessity of collaboration in this crisis
The time for action is now
Currently we are on a course to breach 1.5 degrees of warming by 2027. If we do not change our heading now we are bound for the wreckage of an unstoppable cascade of catastrophic climate feedback loops.
ShipZERO28 is a call to action.
ZESTAs is calling on the strong, the brave, the few, those who have the vision to see what needs to be done and the courage to do it
At ShipZERO28 we will dive in at the point that all of shipping needs to get to, preparing the field from renewable energy, through ports, to on board systems; creating a channel to zero that will allow the bulk of the maritime industry to follow in our wake.
When, Where, and How is Absolute Zero Shipping Possible Now?
“If we are to align with IPCC recommendations of 1.5, shipping needs to ‘come about’ now!” Madadh MacLaine
Three different shipowners will present their unique, and differing challenges. Our workshop will examine these challenges, looking at how a combination of solutions can bring their fleets to absolute zero.
At ShipZERO26 we discovered that the technology is ready and the money is there.
At ShipZERO26.5 we discussed how we could work together to get behind the pioneers.
At ShipZERO online we turned a specific shipowner’s challenges into your opportunities.
At ShipZERO28 we will draw up battle plans and prepare to take the field.
Participants will be selected – register your interest here.
This is an exclusive workshop for people who have the determination to go for absolute zero, standing shoulder to shoulder, creating that absolute zero space; The space humanity needs, that the planet needs us all to get to. ZESTAs is calling on heroes like you to join us at ShipZERO28: “the sharp, whetted knife”.
Each of you hold a piece of the puzzle, join us in forging a clean future. The rest of shipping will follow in our wake.

Brainstorming Session
At ShipZERO28
Ship ZERO°26 – 1,2,3 Nov 2021
‘Ship ZERO° 26’ laid out a course to true zero emissions using the waypoints of existing technologies and innovations, combining perspectives and experiences from a wide range of industry stakeholders to plot a course through the stormy seas of regulation, finance, new technological developments and fuel uncertainty. The first deliverable was a policy paper which was shared with COP26 delegates. The final deliverable will be a collaborative and interactive navigational chart (‘Charging to True Zero°’), which will be shared with COP26 delegates, shipping and energy industry stakeholders, as well as delivered to the IMO, in both written report and film formats.
Ship ZERO°26.5 – 20 JUN 2022
At ‘Ship ZERO° 26.5’ we examined unmitigatedly disruptive projects and collaboration tools, demonstrating concrete examples that propel us to True Zero.
If we are going to reduce emissions in line with 1.5, shipping as we know it must cease to exist.
How can we disrupt business as usual without disrupting the flow of goods?
This will require a disruptive level collaboration!
