Hexagon Purus Maritime

We combine maritime experience with extensive hydrogen storage expertise to provide a holistic approach to zero emission maritime solutions.

Hexagon Purus Maritime is a one stop shop for complete hydrogen fuel systems on board of a vessel. We offer the complete hydrogen system: everything from the side of the vessel to the fuel cell. Together with partners, we cover major parts of the maritime hydrogen value chain, from production to consumption.

Flexible hydrogen fuel systems

Our hydrogen fuel storage system can be mounted on deck and/or below deck, in individual tanks or bundled in collective sections. We are also developing a swappable container solution as an attractive configuration for swift port handling and easy bunkering.

Our core technology

In Hexagon Purus, Type 4 high-pressure cylinders is the core of what we do. With their corrosion resistance and long lifetime, the cylinders ensures our customers reduced operational cost and total cost of ownership. This make them ideal for maritime applications.

“Where batteries alone aren’t suitable, there is a sweet spot for com-pressed hydrogen– particularly for inland or coastal cargo vessels, supply and service vessels for offshore oil & gas, wind farms and fish farming, passenger ferries – predominantly vessels servicing predictable routes point-to-point.”

Robert Haugen

Managing Director, Hexagon Purus Maritime

We have a strong track record from pioneering hydrogen fuel systems in the automotive industry, and now we take that experience to develop hydrogen fuel solutions for the maritime industry, all in close alignment with approval authorities. We combine maritime experience with extensive hydrogen storage expertise to provide a holistic approach to zero emission maritime solutions.

Recent Experience

Hexagon Purus Maritime has participated in a feasibility study for ZeroCoaster (Zero-emission and standardized Coaster).

ZeroCoaster is a study by SINTEF for a modularized and standardized vessel design with zero-emission philosophy, which was funded by the Research Council of Norway.

Hexagon Purus Maritime will deliver a hydrogen fuel storage system to Hvide Sande Shipyard, a Danish shipyard building and servicing a wide range of vessel types.

The hydrogen fuel storage system incorporating type 4 hydrogen cylinders will be used as fuel storage onboard the training ship SKULEBAS. The training ship is owned by Vestland County in Norway and operated by Maaløy Upper Secondary School to educate future mariners in Norway.

Hexagon Purus Maritime is constructing a hydrogen fuel storage system from Moen Marin, the world’s largest supplier of working boats to the fish farming industry. Hexagon Purus Maritime’s hydrogen fuel storage system with type 4 hydrogen cylinders is used for fuel storage onboard a zero-emission working boat for the aquaculture industry in Norway.
