ShipZERO28 Workshop Recap
When, Where, and How is Absolute Zero Shipping Possible Now?
“If we are to align with IPCC recommendations of 1.5, shipping needs to ‘come about’ now!” Madadh MacLaine
Exploring the Feasibility of Absolute Zero Shipping
At ShipZERO28, we addressed the critical question: When, Where, and How is Absolute Zero Shipping Possible Now? The urgency of aligning with IPCC recommendations of 1.5 degrees was a driving force.
Key Highlights:
Three shipowners presented their distinct challenges, providing valuable insights into industry obstacles.
Our workshop examined these challenges, exploring how a combination of solutions could propel fleets towards absolute zero.
Inspired by our past events, ShipZERO28 developed strategic plans, preparing for proactive engagement.
A Call to Industry Leaders: ZESTAs extends a call to heroes with the determination to pursue absolute zero, standing united to create the space humanity and the planet urgently need.

Thank you to all participants, speakers, and contributors who made ShipZERO28 impactful. Together, we shape a sustainable, zero-emission future, understanding that true sustainability means embracing absolute zero emissions.
Upcoming Workshops:
- ShipZERO28.5 – April 18th, 2024: An exclusive workshop for high-level stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region during Singapore Maritime Week.
- ShipZERO29 at COP29: A three-day intensive workshop fostering cross-pollination of ideas and strategies for absolute zero shipping routes.
Stay tuned for updates and initiatives as we continue our journey toward a sustainable and Absolute-Zero-emission future in the maritime industry!
Madadh MacLaine, Secretary General: The necessity of collaboration in this crisis
The time for action is now
Currently we are on a course to breach 1.5 degrees of warming by 2027. If we do not change our heading now we are bound for the wreckage of an unstoppable cascade of catastrophic climate feedback loops.
ShipZERO28 is a call to action.
ZESTAs is calling on the strong, the brave, the few, those who have the vision to see what needs to be done and the courage to do it
At ShipZERO28 we will dive in at the point that all of shipping needs to get to, preparing the field from renewable energy, through ports, to on board systems; creating a channel to zero that will allow the bulk of the maritime industry to follow in our wake.

Our Speakers on the day
Brainstorming Session
At ShipZERO28
Ship ZERO°26 – 1,2,3 Nov 2021
‘Ship ZERO° 26’ laid out a course to true zero emissions using the waypoints of existing technologies and innovations, combining perspectives and experiences from a wide range of industry stakeholders to plot a course through the stormy seas of regulation, finance, new technological developments and fuel uncertainty. The first deliverable was a policy paper which was shared with COP26 delegates. The final deliverable will be a collaborative and interactive navigational chart (‘Charging to True Zero°’), which will be shared with COP26 delegates, shipping and energy industry stakeholders, as well as delivered to the IMO, in both written report and film formats.
Ship ZERO°26.5 – 20 JUN 2022
At ‘Ship ZERO° 26.5’ we examined unmitigatedly disruptive projects and collaboration tools, demonstrating concrete examples that propel us to True Zero.
If we are going to reduce emissions in line with 1.5, shipping as we know it must cease to exist.
How can we disrupt business as usual without disrupting the flow of goods?
This will require a disruptive level collaboration!
