Shift Clean Energy has partnered up with Economar Propulsion and Aluminium Marine Consultants to develop a game-changing retrofit package for electrifying existing crew transfer vessels (CTVs) and workboats in the United Kingdom. In order to lower emissions, reduce costs and increase overall operational efficiency, the partnership aims to introduce “plug to play” solutions that will completely retrofit and modernize fleets of CTVs and workboats. Part of the new sustainable profile of the retrofitted vessels is their future interior overhauls carried out using KPM Marine sustainable seats and furniture. Once transformed, the CTVs and workboats will have high-performing energy storage systems that enable zero-emission operations.
Tides are also turning in India with the beginning of marine vessels transitioning to zero emission operations. In light of India’s mission to decarbonize its marine industry, the Government of West Bengal’s Department of Transport has commissioned the New Generation Electric Ferry. The vessel is one of the first electric ferries to operate in India, owned by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) and powered by Shift’s leading-edge energy storage technology. On a daily basis, New Generation Electric Ferry is estimated to make an average of 40 trips with the capacity to hold 150 passengers.
