water stuff & sun (WSS) GmbH is a deep-tech start-up that presents an innovative and disruptive hydrogen storage and distribution solution. It has been founded in 2017 by a group of experienced hydrogen, energy and microsystems engineering/business experts. It’s based in Munich/Germany and has its microsystems development division in Uppsala/Sweden.
With a clear focus on matching sustainability and economy, we are developing advanced solutions to improve the accessibility and scalability of hydrogen as a clean energy fuel. By utilising renewable energy, particularly solar and wind-powered electrolysis, WSS aims to provide society with tools to store and distribute green hydrogen in the safest, most effective and cost-efficient way. Our cutting-edge product – the H2-Battery – addresses the key challenges in the hydrogen fuel value chain for a wide range of applications: on- and off-road mobility, maritime, and stationary applications.
The H2-Battery allows the operation of a Hydrogen-powered application to become competitive with Diesel-power units, ultimately leading to clean power implementation growth and the active decarbonization of many energy systems.
Maritime Technology / Service Offered
Decarbonization is a strong priority for the maritime sector, where different solutions are being developed depending on the specific application. We believe that hydrogen will play an important role for certain type of vessels in well-defined operations. Diesel engines can be effectively converted to zero-emission hydrogen engines, which will offer high performance and reliability, at a very competitive price.
Even though today’s H2 storage technologies allow for the required H2 fuel capacity onboard, and H2 fuel can be dispensed in dedicated refueling infrastructures in harbors/marinas, the high complexity involved implies high prices of H2 vessels and H2 fuel.
The H2-Battery is 2-in-1 solution that serves as H2 storage system for the application and at the same time as a H2 fuel carrier for the distribution infrastructure. It’s low cost due to high savings in material and production/industrialization processes, and it’s a high value storage because of its high energy storage capacity, modular assembly and swappable function, allowing a much lower fuel cost for consumers, since it requires a much simpler handling and transport infrastructure.
Serving the marine industry with this technology will contribute to successfully implement clean H2 navigation to an important segment of maritime operation.

Maritime Technology / Service offered:
Diesel-competitive H2 vessel
Using a 15m yacht as an example: we could integrate a H2 storage system with a capacity for the normal cruising range, and that at the same price as a Diesel vessel; because the H2 storage system cost is not part of the vessel but rather paid through the fuel (as an energy carrier).
Maritime Technology / Service offered:
Diesel-competitive H2 navigation
H2 fuel is competitive with Diesel fuel. The refuelling process is automatic, and stations are widely available.

Maritime Technology / Service offered:
Low-cost H2 fuel infrastructure
Simplified handling of H2 gas allows efficient build-up and operation of refuelling docks.
