ZESTAs Welcomes WindTracX as a Full Member

May 8, 2026

ZESTAs is pleased to welcome WindTracX as a new member, joining the association’s growing ecosystem of companies working to accelerate the deployment of True Zero emissions shipping.

Based in Switzerland, WindTracX is developing an innovative wind-assisted propulsion system for maritime applications. Its technology uses an autonomous Aero Kite-Drone, combining rigid-wing aerodynamics with drone control to harness stronger and more consistent winds at altitude.

Unlike conventional sail or deck-mounted wind systems, WindTracX’s approach is designed to operate above the vessel, generating traction through actively controlled flight patterns. The system is being developed as a scalable solution, with WindTracX describing configurations ranging from 25 kW to 1 MW, adaptable to different vessel types and operational profiles.

Wind propulsion has an important role to play in the transition to True Zero emissions shipping. By reducing onboard energy demand, wind-assisted systems can improve vessel efficiency and support the practical deployment of zero-emission power and fuel systems. This is particularly relevant as the maritime sector works to move beyond isolated demonstrations and towards complete, operable zero-emission ecosystems.

WindTracX’s work brings a valuable capability into the ZESTAs network: a technology focused on making direct use of renewable wind energy at sea, while reducing reliance on fuel consumption and supporting more efficient vessel operations.

By joining ZESTAs, WindTracX becomes part of an international platform connecting technology developers, vessel operators, ports, energy providers, class, safety experts, and policy actors. Together, this ecosystem is working to align vessel technology, infrastructure, regulation, and operational reality so that zero-emission shipping can move from ambition to deployment.

ZESTAs looks forward to working with WindTracX and supporting their contribution to the advancement of zero emissions shipping.
