Dealfeng receives CCS approval and signs China’s first offshore rotor sail deal

In September 2023, China Classification Society (CCS) issued a Certificate of Works Approval for Dealfeng New Energy Technology Ltd., and Dealfeng signed a new contract with CNOOC Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC) to install two 18m x 4m Dealfeng Rotor Sails onboard the deck carrier – HAI YANG SHI YOU 226. The vessel “HYSH226” is expected to be delivered by the end of 2023 will be China’s first deck carrier to be equipped with Rotor Sails, marking that China’s first commercialised rotor sail retrofitting project has successfully entered the Final Investment Decision (FID) stage.

Also, Dealfeng and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) signed a joint R&D agreement on a newbuild equipped with a rotor sail assisted propulsion system for dual-fuel Aframax tankers that will be certified by AIP certification from Class. This is the first development agreement for a new ship signed by a Chinese rotor sail supplier and a shipyard to install a wind-assisted propulsion (WAP) system, which facilitates more shipyards and shipowners considering WAP technology as one of the most important decarbonisation solutions for energy saving and carbon reduction in shipping industry. The 5000 DWT product oil tanker fitted with Dealfeng Rotor Sail will perform a sea trial in December 2023.
