MarineSolar Energy Solutions: Grafmarine Rebrands as Maritime Solar Business Expands

Apr 28, 2026

ZESTAs member Grafmarine has rebranded as MarineSolar Energy Solutions, reflecting the company’s next stage of development as demand grows for scalable clean energy solutions in the maritime sector.

The new name signals a shift beyond product development towards the delivery of practical, cost-effective and complementary solar energy solutions for shipping.

The rebrand follows a period of growth and strategic investment. In late 2025, the company strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Graham Eves as Non-Executive Director, Joep Groot as Chief Operations Officer, Brian Tenner as Chief Financial Officer, and Ian Pilkington as Chief Supply Chain Officer. These appointments brought added expertise in international growth, operational scaling, and commercial and financial strategy.

At the start of 2026, the company also expanded its wider team, reinforcing both its engineering and commercial capabilities.

Headquartered in the UK, MarineSolar Energy Solutions operates across several European maritime centres, with offices in Manchester, Rotterdam and Bilbao, supporting a growing customer base and deployment pipeline.

At the centre of the company’s offering is NanoDeck™, a modular solar energy platform designed specifically for demanding marine environments. The system enables vessels to generate solar power at sea and supply renewable electricity to onboard systems including navigation, engine operations, accommodation and cargo handling. In doing so, it is intended to reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions and support compliance with tightening environmental requirements.

The company says pilot projects are already underway with major global industry partners, helping demonstrate both the commercial viability and the scalability of its technology in real operating conditions.

Commenting on the rebrand, Nigel Marc Roberts, CEO of MarineSolar Energy Solutions, said the change represents more than a new name, describing it as a clearer expression of the company’s direction and purpose as it enters its next phase of growth.

He said the maritime sector is actively looking for viable and scalable routes to cleaner energy, and that MarineSolar Energy Solutions is well placed to support shipowners, operators and charterers through a strengthened leadership team, an expanded workforce and a proven technology platform in NanoDeck™.

The rebrand also reflects the company’s longer-term ambition to position itself as a global leader in clean energy solutions for maritime applications, supporting the industry’s transition while maintaining operational and commercial performance.
