WEB-WORKSHOP 3 | 21 OCTOBER 2026 | RECORDING AVAILABLE

ShipZERO31 Med-ZEE Web-workshop Series

Can the Mediterranean Produce Enough Renewable Energy & Hydrogen for Zero-Emission Shipping?

Zero-emission ships need zero-emission energy.

How much renewable energy and hydrogen will Mediterranean shipping require,
and can the region produce, distribute and deliver it at the scale needed?

The recording of the third ShipZERO31 Med-ZEE web-workshop,
Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Production, is now available
on YouTube.

Held on 21 October 2026, the session brought together experts in renewable
energy, hydrogen production and infrastructure to examine the energy supply
needed to support zero-emission shipping across the Mediterranean.

From renewable energy production to maritime demand

The session explored:

  • Existing and planned renewable energy around the Mediterranean,
    including land-based and marine resources.
  • Renewable hydrogen production on land and at sea.
  • Ports, infrastructure and distribution networks connecting energy
    supply with vessels.
  • The relationship between projected supply and maritime energy demand.
  • What can realistically scale, and the barriers to deployment.

Expert presentations were followed by a roundtable discussion exploring
how the different solutions could connect into a practical Mediterranean
zero-emission energy network.

Building the Mediterranean Zero Emission Ecosystem

The first two ShipZERO31 web-workshops explored swappable energy storage
systems and wind, hydrogen and efficiency. Workshop 3 moved upstream
to the energy itself: where renewable power and hydrogen can come from,
how much will be needed, and how supply can connect to ports and vessels.
