Spanish company Dhamma Blue is advancing the development of hydrogen-powered recreational vessels while supporting the development of the wider hydrogen maritime ecosystem required to enable zero-emission boating operations.

The company’s hydrogen fuel cell-electric recreational vessel, fully designed and built in Spain, combines electric propulsion with a hydrogen fuel cell system to extend operational range beyond the limitations typically associated with battery-only vessels. The vessel is capable of navigating approximately 65 nautical miles at 12 knots, with top speeds reaching 28 knots.

Dhamma Blue has already demonstrated the operational viability of its technology during real navigation conditions and international events, including the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2025, where the vessel established an endurance record and received the Jury’s Coup de Cœur Award.

Beyond vessel development, the company is also working with marinas and ports to support the deployment of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure. This reflects a growing recognition across the maritime sector that the transition toward hydrogen propulsion requires parallel development of both vessels and supporting infrastructure.

Dhamma Blue is additionally contributing operational experience to discussions surrounding Spain’s future regulatory framework for hydrogen installation and refuelling operations in ports.

Following the deployment of its first hydrogen-powered recreational vessel, the company is now expanding into additional applications including professional vessels, workboats and passenger transport solutions.

The long-term objective includes the development of a Spanish shipyard dedicated to hydrogen-powered vessels, supporting both industrial development and the transition toward cleaner maritime mobility.
