ARGO ANLEG is developing a standardised, configurable and scalable inerted hydrogen storage and distribution product, designed from the outset for certification and easier integration at different locations onboard vessels.

The company also recently took part in the DNV Hydrogen Maritime Safety Forum 2026 at DNV’s headquarters in Høvik, where it presented its maritime hydrogen experience and latest developments.

Moving beyond bespoke hydrogen integration

Hydrogen storage integration is still largely designed on a project-by-project basis. Each vessel has its own architecture, available space, storage capacity and approval requirements. This can result in significant non-recurring engineering, long approval cycles, major vessel modifications and high integration costs.

ARGO ANLEG’s ambition is to transform this project-specific approach into a repeatable product platform.

Its inerted safety architecture is intended to provide a very high level of safety while offering greater flexibility in where hydrogen storage can be positioned onboard.

The product is being developed to accommodate different vessel types, installation locations and storage capacities, with the objective of avoiding major modifications to the vessel and its overall architecture.

By standardising safety functions, interfaces and certification evidence, ARGO ANLEG aims to simplify the approval process, shorten integration schedules and reduce overall project costs.

The development builds on more than 25 years of maritime and inland-waterway hydrogen experience.

At the DNV forum, ARGO ANLEG presented how its work on complex vessel integrations, safety-critical components and multifunctional machined manifold blocks has created the technical foundation for the new solution.

A dedicated patent application has also been filed to protect the core architecture and innovative safety principles underpinning the product.

Development is being supported through cooperation with classification societies and flag administrations and is aligned with the evolving international regulatory framework, including the publication of the IMO Interim Guidelines MSC.1/Circ.1701 for the Safety of Ships Using Hydrogen as Fuel in July 2026.
